Taste What Makes The Monocle a Culinary Institution Near Elevation at Washington Gateway
Old school charm and traditional flavors are first on the menu at The Monocle, the legendary steak and seafood restaurant just moments from Elevation at Washington Gateway. Since the time of Johnson’s administration, it’s been run by the Valanos family, hosting plenty of power lunches, business dinners, and extended happy hours. Located a few steps behind the Senate office buildings, this place definitely appeals to brokers, lobbyists, and DC insiders (the private upstairs dining rooms are booked nearly constantly when Congress is in session), but you’ll also find the dining room is full of plenty of regular folks who just want to enjoy a good steak.
As for the food, the menu is a throwback to traditional steak and supper clubs, with simple, high-quality entrees and strong, well-crafted cocktails. Try the crab Conrad paired with a nice wine, or go for a steak with a dry martini, and keep your eyes peeled. You never know when a senator, secretary, or president might stop by!
