Au Bon Pain: Grab a Quick Bite Near Elevation at Washington Gateway

The Au Bon Pain concept began when founder Louis Kane saw a demonstration of French baking equipment in a shopping center in Boston. He asked himself: Why should the amazing smell of fresh bread be confined to old-fashioned mom-and-pop bakeries? Why shouldn’t there be a place to get oven-baked goods in malls, airports, or train stations? Thus the Au Bon Pain story began.

The New York and Florida Avenue location of Au Bon Pain, adjacent to the NoMa-Gallaudet U Metro station near Elevation at Washington Gateway, is a testament to Kane’s idea of melding quality baked goods and convenient locations. Commuters stream in throughout the day to pick up a coffee and a bagel in the morning, a salad and a juice for lunch on the go, or a couple of cookies as a pick-me-up on the way home from work. It’s a popular alternative to fast-food greasy spoons and convenience store packaged foods!
